We are the World

We are the World
"We are the World: 25 for Haiti" seems to be a top favourite on everyone's playlists these days. This special version of the song was released on Feb 12, during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

More than 80 artists sing this song together. Their aim is to help the people of Haiti. A powerful earthquake has devastated the country and killed thousands. A lot of money is needed to rescue people as well as to rebuild the damaged towns.

This is not the first time, however, that this song has been used to help people. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song way back in 1985. Then, the African nation of Ethiopia was suffering from a terrible famine. American musicians who wanted to help, got together to form a supergroup called 'USA for Africa'. They sang this song as a way to raise funds. The plan worked - they managed to raise millions of dollars as aid.

The group behind the 2010 remake hopes that it can recreate the same magic this year.
